The automotive industry is one of the most important sectors in the world. It is undergoing changes driven by recent technological innovations, the need to promote sustainable and responsible mobility, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Electrification, the digitalisation of vehicles, shared transport and self-driving vehicles are some of the latest trends detected in the industry. If the transition to new mobility continues, it is expected that between 18 and 26% of vehicles will be electric by 2030. There are several ways to achieve this, such as electric cars, hybrid cars and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as well as other solutions for shared mobility in urban settings. In the following article, we analyse the situation of the automotive industry and the opportunities, risks, and challenges of this transformation process.
