The Pacte Industrial is committed to sustainable mobility industry as an engine of the economic recovery of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region

04-05-2021

The President of the General Council of the Pacte Industrial and First Deputy Mayor for Economy, Work, Competitiveness and Finance of Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni, has announced the creation of the Sustainable Mobility Industry Forum within the Pacte Industrial. The aim of this forum is to promote the transformation of  important industrial sectors for the country such as the automotive, motorcycle and railway industries towards a sustainable (decarbonised), digital, shared, connected and autonomous framework.

The initiative was presented during the 49th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pacte Industrial, held remotely on May 4th. The meeting was chaired by Núria Marín, President of the Executive Committee of the Pacte Industrial and Mayor of Hospitalet de Llobregat, who continues to push for changes that will transform the current production framework into a more sustainable and resilient framework. Marín pointed out that the Pacte Industrial wants to contribute to sustainable reindustrialisation based on the pact between the actors of the socio-economic system, the circular economy and industry 4.0.

The Pacte Industrial, a meeting place

Collboni has defended the leadership of the Pacte Industrial in this process as a “meeting place between institutions and public and private agents, to raise awareness of the goal and the necessary actions to transform the different sectors involved in an ecosystem related to sustainable mobility capable of facing current and future challenges and contributing to the economic recovery of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region”. The objectives proposed by the Pacte Industrial in this “necessary” process, per Collboni, are “to combine the social, economic, institutional and scientific agents in order to add value to the sustainable mobility industry in the metropolitan area, and to support the ecosystem by the alliances which will be essential in the new Next Generation EU context”.

The Managing Director of the Pacte Industrial, Carles Rivera, indicated the Forum’s areas of interest: talent and training, R&D and innovation business, entrepreneurial ecosystem, infrastructure, and promotion and marketing. In the coming months, the specific actions to be carried out will be released, but it has been announced that studies and the training of a steering group and working groups will be carried out, as well as the organisation of conferences and round tables.

Current Pacte Industrial

As usual, the latest activities of the association and those planned for the coming months have been reviewed. From the Mobility Commission, Juan José Casado (UGT of Catalonia) reported on the session on the challenges of urban distribution of goods. M. Rosa Fiol (Fomento del Treball) referred to the possible studies and activities within the framework of the Mobility Commission. Salvador Clarós (CCOO of Catalonia), of the Commission of Economic Activity, reminded us of the presentation of the Paper 5 of the Pacte Industrial and Sergi Fuster (PIMEC), from the Innovation Commission, stated that the programming of some activity related to the Barcelona Building Construmat is being explored. Finally, Carles Rivera referred to the recent presentation of the study on artificial intelligence in companies. The managing director also announced the closure of the 2020 annual accounts and the 2021 budget proposal.

“Recovery Plan , transformation and resilience”

At the end of the meeting, Jordi Garcia Brustenga, Director of Operations and Strategy of ENISA, presented the Spanish government’s “Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan”. Brustenga stressed that this initiative aims to “change the game entirely”, adapting the whole territory to the new digital, green and fair framework. “Territories are the object of innovation”, he said, “and this will be an opportunity for innovative companies to offer these products and services”, which will be providers of public administrations. He also stressed that “more and better individual aid” will be offered. Finally, he explained the new way of working based on tractor projects through the impetus of public-private consortia, especially with the private leadership of the pioneering agents of each strategic area. Brustenga pointed out the necessary leadership of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region throughout this process.
